Egypt Celebrates International Women’s Day

Every year, on 8 March the world celebrates International Women’s Day. The day aims to focus on women’s historic struggle for their rights, according to Daily News Egypt.

This worldwide event celebrates women’s achievements in all fields from the political to the social while calling for gender equality.

Worth mentioning, the first International Women’s Day to be officially recognized was back in 1911, and 2023 marks the 115th annual celebration.

The theme for 2023 is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”, According to the UN women, “This 8 March, we are calling on governments, activists and the private sector alike to power on in their efforts to make the digital world safer, more inclusive and more equitable. Facing a multiplicity of global crises, we have a chance to create a better future—not just for women and girls, but for all humanity and all life on Earth.”

On her part, Maya Morsi, President of the National Council for Women, sent a message to women and girls in Egypt and the world on the occasion of International Women’s Day, saying: Every year, all the women and girls of Egypt and the world are a source of strength and a source of pride for their countries.

In her message on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Morsi added that in light of this year’s celebration under the slogan “Digitalization for Everyone: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality”, Egypt has made tangible progress with national plans, strategies, programs, and initiatives.

She stressed: We all have to intensify our efforts to address the phenomenon of cyber violence against women and girls, improve ways of prevention and protection from it on platforms and means of information and communication technology, and strengthen multiple partnerships to create technological solutions and policies to empower women and girls and enhance their security.
