Chairman of the African Union Commission (AUC) Mousa Faki received Sunday Egypt’s Permanent Representative at the AU, Ambassador Mohamed Gad, who wanted to follow up on the outcomes of the last summit that took place in February and prepare for the action plan to be executed in the coming months.

Ambassador Gad stipulated Egypt’s commitment to the implementation of the outcomes of all AU summits, expressing the country’s aspiration that the commission would fully operate the AU Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development Center (PCRD) headquartered in Cairo.

In a similar context, the diplomat pointed out the agreement signed for Egypt to house the headquarters of the African Space Agency (AfSA). He also presented the priorities of Egypt during its chairmanship of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD).

Those are accelerating the implementation of the 2063 Agenda, promoting investment in infrastructure, energy, intra-African free trade, and reinforcing human capacity-building at AU agencies.

On his side, the AUC’s chairman valued the cooperation and consultation with Egypt on AU issues and African priorities. In that framework, he affirmed the commission’s commitment to accelerating the operation of the AU offices in Egypt to better serve the continent by leveraging the Egyptian financial and administrative expertise in developing the work mechanisms of the union.

The meeting also tackled the most prominent issues on the agenda of peace and security in Africa, stressing the importance of the decision issued in the last summit on accomplishing an agreement on the endorsement of contributions by the North African states to the peace fund.

Faki and Gad equally discussed the transfer of Egyptian experience in combating terrorism.
