Celebrating International Women’s Day, internationally acclaimed Egyptian-Norwegian international artist Britt Boutros-Ghali is launching her largest retrospective series, “Women in My World”, with an exhibition titled, “Hawanem”.

In her statement, the artist says: Egyptian women have always been my inspiration since I came to Cairo in 1978. I was impressed by the crucial role she plays in the progress and prosperity of Egyptian society.

The exhibition honors women all over the world, especially Egyptian women, who are the true inspiration for this group of works. The exhibition will open to the public on March 10 from 5 pm to 10 pm at Factory Gallery in downtown Cairo, formerly known as Town House Gallery.

She added: Women in ancient Egypt were a symbol of strength and steadfastness more than anywhere else in the world, and the movement for liberating Egyptian women was the first in the history of the Arab region. In addition, most women support their families and work as workers in care services, sewing, cooking, hygiene, agricultural production, dairy production, and other fields.

Ghali concluded: Therefore, the exhibition includes over 50 paintings portraying the role of women, whether housewives or workers in community development. The “Hawanem” exhibition is like diaries for faces clothed with tactile fabrics and luminous colors, all of which work to describe the essence and spirit of the female through my intuition, as Egyptian women are strong, smart, tough, energetic, humorous, and full of energy.

In this exhibition, Artist Brit Boutros-Ghali passionately presents emotional abstract paintings and expressive works of personalities. Her artwork is characterized as charismatic, daring, and unforgettable.

Brit Boutros-Ghali is considered one of the most celebrated Norwegian artists of this century and constantly gains worldwide recognition for her unusual, mysterious pieces. Moreover, she received the highest honor given to a living artist in Norway, the “San Olaf” medal from King “Hard” of Norway, for her outstanding contribution to contemporary art in 1996 and her great services to art.

It should also be noted that Edward Manche is the only other artist to win this medal in Norway’s history in 1933.
