Apple Considers Turning Locked iPhone Screens into Smart Home Displays in iOS 17

The American multinational technology company, Apple, is now working on a new feature envisioned to turn locked iPhones into smart display-like screens to be released in the upcoming iOS 17.

According to a statement by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the lock screen interface will show information like notifications, calendar appointments, and weather forecasts when the phone is locked and placed in a horizontal position.

Moreover, Gurman’s report revealed that this feature aims to deploy a dark background and bright text combination to enhance readability even from a distance.

He further noted that Google already has a similar feature for its Pixel devices when used with the pixel stand. When the user places his Pixel on the stand, he can access various settings or display a slideshow of images from Google Photos while the device is charging. This in-process Apple interface is expected to work similarly to smart home devices from Google and Amazon.

In addition, Gurman stated that Apple intends to add more enhancements to its location services and establish significant changes to the smartphone’s Wallet app in the new iOS 17.

The reporter also claims that the tech giant is working to introduce this smart feature to the iPad, pointing out that Apple doesn’t add features to iPads as fast as it does to iPhones, as the iPhone’s lock screen widgets are still not available on iPads.

Recently, Apple released iOS 16.5 software update to all users with a new feature called ‘sports tab’ in its News app, which is currently available for iPhone 8 and later versions.

The newly added sports tab is like a hub for match schedules, scores, and coverage for the user’s favorite sports teams.
