Al-Azhar: Women Have Separate Financial Liability that Requires Paying Zakat

by Nada Khaled

Sheikh Abu Al-Yazid Salama, one of the scholars of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, said that zakat is part of the money that is due to the poor, and the woman has a financial liability separate from the husband and may have to pay zakat as soon as her money reaches the quorum.

The Azhari scholar continued, during his interview on “Al-Bayt” program, broadcast on Al-Nas TV yesterday: A woman must count her money and pay off her debts, and then calculate the remainder every end of the Hijri year, and if it reaches the quorum, that is, the value of 85 grams of gold.

He added: If all the money he has is equivalent to the value of 85 grams of 21 karat gold, she must pay 2.5%, that is, for every thousand pounds, 25 pounds should be given to the poor.

Notably, the United Media Services Company had launched the Al-Nas channel in its new form, via frequency 12054, showcasing its range of programs covering women, children, youth, religion, and culture, and the new map that will be broadcast on its screen during 2023.
