In its ongoing mission to highlight inspiring female role models and document the lives of figures who have profoundly impacted public service, the National Council for Women (NCW) has announced the production of a documentary film detailing the career and achievements of Ambassador Mervat Tallawy. The film serves as a tribute to her extensive contributions as the former Minister of Social Solidarity and former President of the National Council for Women, specifically her dedication to women’s empowerment and social development.
The documentary traces significant milestones in her long professional journey, capturing her diverse diplomatic and administrative roles. It also highlights her influential contributions to supporting women’s issues on both national and international levels, establishing her as a pivotal figure in solidifying policies that support the advancement of Egyptian women.
The film features testimonials from several public figures who witnessed her journey and were influenced by her work. Among those featured are Ambassador Fayza Abul-Naga, National Security Advisor to the President; the prominent diplomat Amr Moussa; Dr. Maya Morsy, Minister of Social Solidarity; and Counselor Amal Ammar, President of the National Council for Women. Other contributors include Dr. Hassan Sanad, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Minya University; Ambassador Hassan El-Darar; and journalist Amina Shafiq, alongside the daughter and grandson of Ambassador Tallawy, who provide a personal perspective on her legacy in public service.
Counselor Amal Ammar, President of the National Council for Women, stated that this artistic project reflects the Council’s deep appreciation for Ambassador Tallawy’s career. She emphasized that Tallawy is a prominent figure whose impact on women’s issues remains visible both within Egypt and abroad. Ammar added that the film provides a documented reading of an experience where diplomatic expertise met institutional leadership, helping to increase female representation in decision-making positions and serving as an inspiration for future generations.
The documentary is inspired by the book titled A Woman from Upper Egypt, which chronicles the autobiography of Ambassador Mervat Tallawy, from her upbringing to her professional ascent in the diplomatic corps and her various leadership roles.
The film was premiered during the Nut Forum, held as part of the 10th edition of the Aswan International Women Film Festival.
