Mona Yousef

In a recognition of Egypt’s global leadership in economic policy and international cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat has been appointed as a commissioner in the Future of Development Cooperation Coalition, a newly launched global initiative aimed at reshaping development frameworks worldwide.

The coalition brings together a distinguished group of leaders from governments, the private sector, and civil society to address the evolving challenges facing international development, including climate change, economic transitions, rapid technological advancement, and geopolitical tensions.

A Global Effort to Rethink Development

The Future of Development Cooperation Coalition was jointly launched by the Center for Global Development and the African Center for Economic Transformation. The initiative seeks to build a shared vision for more effective and inclusive development cooperation and financing systems.

Its mission centers on enhancing countries’ ability to shape their own development priorities while improving the efficiency and impact of global financial flows.

Influential Leadership and Global Representation

The coalition is co-chaired by Arancha González Laya, former Spanish Foreign Minister and current dean at Sciences Po, alongside Yemi Osinbajo.

It includes commissioners from across Africa, Europe, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East. Among them are prominent international figures such as David Miliband and Joaquim Levy, reflecting the coalition’s broad and diverse expertise.

Advancing Development Finance and Policy Integration

Al-Mashat emphasized that modern development cooperation must better align with national priorities while mobilizing greater private sector investment. She highlighted the importance of strengthening connections between public policy, international partnerships, and capital markets to maximize development outcomes.

Such an integrated approach, she noted, can enhance macroeconomic stability, support structural reforms, and ensure more effective use of development financing.

Key Meeting in Washington

The coalition is set to convene its inaugural meeting in Washington, D.C., during the World Bank and IMF Spring Meetings 2026. This first gathering will launch a year-long process to develop practical, actionable recommendations aimed at improving global development cooperation systems.  With leaders like Al-Mashat contributing to its work, the coalition is expected to play a significant role in shaping more resilient, inclusive, and forward-looking development strategies worldwide.
