Egypt’s Planning Minister Visits Ahl Masr Burn Hospital, Reaffirms State Support for Free Treatment Expansion

Mona Yousef

Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Ahmed Rostom, conducted an inspection visit to Ahl Masr Burn Hospital, underscoring the government’s commitment to expanding free, specialized healthcare services for burn victims and supporting the hospital’s ongoing second-phase development.

The visit comes as part of broader state efforts to strengthen partnerships with leading medical institutions and advance high-impact healthcare initiatives serving vulnerable communities.

Backing a National Medical Initiative

During the tour, Rostom emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the sustainability of the hospital’s services, particularly its mission to provide free, comprehensive care for burn patients.

“The state is keen to provide all forms of support to this major medical institution to ensure it continues delivering its services at the highest quality and efficiency,” Rostom said, praising the hospital’s operational readiness and advanced medical capabilities.

The minister noted that the second phase of expansion will significantly increase the hospital’s capacity, enabling it to treat more patients and broaden its range of specialized services.

A Model for Specialized Care

Rostom was accompanied by Heba El-Sewedy, founder and chair of the hospital’s board of trustees, who provided a detailed overview of the facility’s departments, cutting-edge technologies, and treatment protocols.

The visit included direct engagement with patients, offering insight into their medical conditions and ongoing care needs — a step officials say reflects a people-centered approach to healthcare development.

Expanding Capacity to 200 Beds

The hospital is currently working to complete its second phase, which aims to increase capacity to 200 beds, positioning it as a leading regional center for burn treatment and rehabilitation.

This expansion is part of a broader strategy to elevate burn care as a national and regional priority, while enhancing Egypt’s role as a hub for specialized medical services.

Continued Government Engagement

El-Sewedy welcomed the minister’s visit, describing it as a strong signal of sustained government interest in addressing burn injuries as both a medical and humanitarian priority.

“We are proud of the progress achieved in the first phase with the support of previous governments, and we look forward to continued backing to complete the second phase under the current administration,” she said.

Beyond Treatment: Holistic Care

Officials highlighted that Ahl Masr Burn Hospital provides not only advanced medical treatment, but also psychological and social support services, ensuring a comprehensive recovery pathway for patients.

Rostom commended the hospital’s integrated care model, calling it a benchmark for combining clinical excellence with humanitarian service.

Strengthening Public-Private Collaboration

The visit reflects a broader national push to align government resources with civil society initiatives, reinforcing Egypt’s healthcare system through collaborative models.

As the country continues to expand access to quality care, institutions like Ahl Masr Burn Hospital are increasingly seen as critical partners in delivering sustainable, inclusive health services.
