Egypt has shown marked progress in the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Index issued by Georgetown University’s Institute for Women, Peace and Security, in collaboration with the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO). The country advanced 28 places since 2017, reaching rank 110 globally in 2024.
The WPS Index is a globally recognized measure that evaluates the inclusion, justice, and security of women across 177 countries. Egypt’s leap in the rankings underscores the nation’s sustained efforts to promote gender equality, enhance women’s representation, and improve safety and legal protections for women.
This progress reflects the impact of government-led reforms, national strategies for women’s empowerment, and the expansion of social protection programs aimed at reducing gender-based disparities in both urban and rural settings.
The Georgetown WPS Index is widely referenced by policymakers, researchers, and development agencies as a tool for tracking gender equity and peacebuilding outcomes.
