Egypt Launches Third Phase of Nationwide Disability Empowerment Initiative Under Patronage of First Lady

Mona Yousef

Under the patronage of Egypt’s First Lady, Entissar El-Sisi, the third phase of a pioneering national  “My Strength, My Family” initiative to empower persons with disabilities and their families has officially been launched. This new phase reflects the Egyptian state’s deep-rooted commitment to inclusion, equality, and the sustainable empowerment of one of its most vital communities.

The program, overseen by the National Council for Persons with Disabilities in coordination with the Cabinet’s Media Center, aims to further the achievements of its two previous phases, which successfully reached over 5,000 families across 16 governorates.

The latest phase targets ten additional governorates: Sohag, Kafr El-Sheikh, Alexandria, Matrouh, Suez, Ismailia, New Valley, Red Sea, Menoufia, and Aswan. These regions will benefit from a broadened set of initiatives designed to provide holistic support for persons with disabilities, ranging from healthcare and inclusive education to employment and psychosocial services.

Among the flagship programs set to roll out in this phase are:

  • “Health for All” — a nationwide campaign to ensure accessible medical services tailored to persons with disabilities.
  • “My Inclusive School” — focused on integrating students with disabilities into mainstream educational institutions.
  • “A Job Opportunity” — aimed at enhancing vocational training and employment access for disabled individuals.
  • “Psychological and Social Support for Families” — offering counseling and assistance to families to better support their loved ones.

In a significant step toward long-term sustainability, this phase will also focus on forging strategic partnerships with government institutions, private sector stakeholders, and civil society organizations. These collaborations aim to ensure that the initiative not only reaches those in need but endures as a permanent feature of Egypt’s social development landscape.

This effort underscores Egypt’s broader ambition to meet the goals outlined in its Vision 2030 plan, aligning with global standards on disability rights and inclusion.

The First Lady’s sponsorship of the program sends a powerful message about the state’s unwavering prioritization of marginalized groups, and its resolve to build a society in which every citizen—regardless of ability—has equal opportunity to thrive.
