Egypt’s Ministry of Social Solidarity has announced the disbursement of August cash assistance payments under the flagship “Takaful and Karama”  social protection program. Beginning Friday, August 15, 4.7 million low-income families across the country will receive financial support totaling more than EGP 4 billion (approx. USD 84 million).

Minister of Social Solidarity Dr. Maya Morsy confirmed that beneficiaries can access their payments starting in the early hours of the morning through ATM machines of all participating banks nationwide, as well as conduct electronic payments and government-related transactions using their issued cards.

Widespread Coordination to Ensure Smooth Disbursement

The Ministry is closely monitoring the disbursement process in coordination with governors and directors of social solidarity directorates across all governorates to ensure seamless access to payments and address any logistical issues that may arise.

This monthly disbursement marks a continuation of Egypt’s expanded commitment to social safety nets and poverty alleviation, particularly for the most vulnerable segments of society. In April 2025, the government implemented a permanent 25% increase in cash transfers under the Takaful and Karama program, raising the annual budget to EGP 54 billion.

Supporting Over 18 Million Citizens Nationwide

The program currently supports approximately 18 million individuals, offering both conditional and unconditional cash assistance to families and individuals who meet criteria of need, disability, age, or vulnerability.

Takaful and Karama represents one of the cornerstones of Egypt’s social and economic rights agenda, delivering targeted support to marginalized groups while aligning with the country’s sustainable development goals (SDGs). The program aims not only to alleviate immediate poverty but also to empower recipients to engage in long-term development opportunities.
