Mona Yousef

As Egypt concluded the second day of its 2025 Senate elections, Counselor Amal Ammar, President of the National Council for Women (NCW), conducted an intensive review of the electoral process from the Council’s Central Operations Room, with a strong emphasis on female participation across the country.

Joined by Dr. Rasha El Mahdy, NCW member and rapporteur of the Political Participation Committee, and Eman Khalifa, Head of the Central Electoral Operations Room, Counselor Ammar led real-time monitoring efforts, connecting with field monitors across governorates via videoconference to ensure smooth and inclusive electoral proceedings.

Coordination with Beheira Governorate

A key highlight of the day was Counselor Ammar’s direct communication with Dr. Jacqueline Azar, Governor of Beheira, through live video from the governorate’s own operations room.

Ammar commended Dr. Azar’s role in facilitating a well-organized election process, especially in Beheira, noting the strong presence of women at polling stations.

Women Leading the Democratic Scene

Governor Azar, in turn, praised the NCW’s nationwide efforts, reaffirming that “From the early hours of the morning, women have led the electoral scene in Beheira. The National Council for Women remains an essential success partner in our efforts, alongside the National Elections Authority.”

She also emphasized the combined outreach campaigns and coordination with civil society that helped raise awareness about the importance of this constitutional milestone, ensuring women were informed, empowered, and encouraged to vote.

Strategic Monitoring for Inclusive Elections

Through its central and regional operations rooms, the NCW monitored thousands of polling stations using a field team of 1,688 trained observers. Their real-time reports have consistently confirmed:

  • High female voter turnout, especially during early morning and late afternoon hours.
  • A significant role for women in managing polling stations, including female judges and support staff.
  • Smooth and secure election operations, particularly in areas with a strong NCW presence.

A National Commitment to Women’s Political Participation

Counselor Amal Ammar’s hands-on approach to overseeing the electoral process, including direct engagement with provincial leadership, is part of the Council’s broader commitment to strengthening women’s political inclusion in Egypt.
