Egypt’s Prime Minister Reviews Progress of First Phase of “Haya Karima” Presidential Initiative

Egypt’s Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, held a meeting this evening to review the latest developments in the implementation of the first phase of the “Haya Karima” Presidential Initiative aimed at developing Egypt’s rural villages. The meeting witnessed the presence of  Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Eng. Sherif Al-Shorbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, and key officials from various agencies involved in the initiative.

The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to closely monitoring the progress of the “Haya Karima” initiative, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that completed projects are fully operational and benefiting citizens. He highlighted the need for this initiative to fulfill its intended goals and maximize the returns on investments made.

The first phase of the “Haya Karima” initiative involves projects across 1,477 villages located within 52 centers in 20 governorates. These projects aim to significantly improve the living conditions and access to essential services for rural citizens. The government aims to complete the phase soon, ensuring the various services provided by these projects are fully operational and accessible to the targeted communities.

During the meeting, Eng. Ahmed Abdel Azim, Head of “Dar Al-Handasah” Consultancy, reported that 348 villages had completed the full implementation of projects in the first phase, with 95 of these villages finishing in the past two weeks. Furthermore, 1,007 villages have achieved completion rates of 95%, and work is expected to be completed in 150 additional villages by the end of March. He also noted that 843 projects across different sectors have been completed recently, with a total of 3,398 projects across all sectors being handed over in recent weeks.

Eng. Abdel Azim also provided a detailed overview of the progress in various sectors of the initiative, offering timelines for the remaining work and emphasizing the coordination between different stakeholders to ensure timely completion.

Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, highlighted the financial allocations for the first phase of the initiative, which total 350 billion Egyptian pounds. She noted that approximately 70% of the investment is directed towards human development, while 30% is allocated to green investments. The minister also emphasized that the Upper Egyptian governorates received 68% of the total funding for this phase, benefiting 34 centers across nine governorates, covering 199 local units and 900 villages with a total population of 11 million citizens.

The minister further outlined the investments in education and healthcare, stating that 55% of the investments in school construction and renovation are focused on Upper Egypt, while 59% of the health service projects have been completed in the region.

The meeting underscored the ongoing commitment of the Egyptian government to enhance the quality of life in rural communities through the “Haya Karima” initiative, which continues to play a crucial role in achieving the country’s development goals.
