UN Women applauds Egypt’s groundbreaking role in delivering emergency aid to Gaza Strip

Dr. Sima Bahouth, Executive Director of UN Women, praised Egypt’s extraordinary leadership in the Arab region and Africa under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and its sustained support for UN Women’s humanitarian initiatives in Gaza, as Egypt exerted tremendous efforts to facilitate the procedure allowed the help to arrive on schedule.

Dr. Bahouth’s remarks underline Egypt’s critical role in maintaining regional peace and supporting the United Nations’ humanitarian efforts.

Dr. Maya Morsi, President of the National Council for Women, and Head of the Egyptian delegation participating in the activities of the 68th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, met with Dr. Sima Bahouth, Executive Director of UN Women, on the sidelines of the 68th session held in New York, to discuss ways of cooperation between the two sides in the common fields.

Dr. Sima Bahouth praised the National Council for Women, led by Dr. Maya Morsi, for its efforts to advocate for Palestinian women and their contribution to the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). She also praised Egypt’s endeavors to empower women and economically implement the financial inclusion program.

Furthermore, the UN official applauded the Egyptian Red Crescent’s efforts to facilitate the delivery of aid that satisfies Palestinian women’s fundamental requirements.

During her remarks, Dr. Maya Morsi highlighted the pressing issue of cyber violence that women and girls face, and the detrimental impact it can have on their participation in public life and leadership positions. She emphasized the need for stronger protection mechanisms to be put in place to safeguard them against such violence.

Dr. Maya Morsi expressed her gratitude to Dr. Sima Bahouth for the effective partnership between the Egyptian government and UN Women, which supports and empowers women in various fields. She emphasized the importance of this collaboration within the framework of national projects.

Moreover, Dr. Morsi thanked Dr. Bahouth and UN Women for their tireless efforts to ensure that the humanitarian aid provided by UN Women reaches the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. They coordinate with Egypt to meet the needs of Palestinian women.
