Women’s Prize for Fiction Announces Shortlisted Novels

The Women’s Prize for Fiction announced today, in its 28th session for 2023, the shortlisted novels among the 16 that reached the long list. The award is dedicated to novels written in English by female writers.

The Women’s Prize for Fiction had recently announced the long-listed novels, which varied in themes from Renaissance Italy, rural India, the Siege of Sarajevo, Northern Ireland’s troubled Period, and opioid-infested Virginia, to a fantasy kingdom ruled by animals, and ancient cinema hallucinogenic, and an underwater world full of unusual creatures.

Women’s Prize for Fiction 2023 – Shortlisted Novels:

Black Butterflies by Priscilla Morris
The Copperhead Demon by Barbara Kingsolver
Rush of Fire by Jacqueline Crooks
The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O’Farrell
Transgression by Louise Kennedy
Qurna by Laline Paul

The winner of the Women’s Prize for Fiction will receive a check for £30,000 and a bronze statue known as Bessie, created and donated by artist Grizel Niven.

The winning novel of the 2023 Women’s Prize for Fiction will be announced on June 14, 2023, during a ceremony held in the center of the British capital, London.
