TOP 50 Women Forum launched the “Women Towards Sustainability” seminar, in collaboration with the Institute of National Planning (INP), DCarbon Sustainability Consultancy on Wednesday, October 12th, 2022.

The seminar witnessed the attendance of Dr. Ashraf Al Araby- President of INB-, the media person Dina Abdel Fattah-the Forum’s Founder and Chairperson-, Dr. Ehab Shalaby- CEO and Managing Director of the DCarbon, , Dr. Hesham Eissa, Former Egyptian Focal Point, UNFCCC, and Dr. Hala Abou Ali, Environmental Planning and Development Centre, Institute of National Planning (INP).

The organizing entities targeted to launch the first- of its kind integrated climate awareness program for women in business and female leaders in support of the transition to the green economy and preservation of the environment. The program highlights the impact of climate change and women’s role in addressing it. The seminar was held in parallel with Egypt’s preparations to host the incoming 27th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP 27) in Sharm El Shiekh by next November.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Ashraf Al Araby, President of INB-,  highlighted that INP’s partnership With TOP 50 Women Forum, DCarbon aligned with Egypt’s vision 2030 and INP’s women empowerment prospects and strategy that was set up in 2015.

“INP’s strategy pursues women empowerment at all levels”, said Al Araby. He also referred that INP has been looking forward to extending cooperation in advancing women’s empowerment and sustainable development for the 3rd consecutive year. These efforts have been exerted within the framework of the institute’s second five-year plan.

As stated by Dr. Al Araby, INP offers various programs of post-graduate studies, in addition to consultancy services in planning and development for either public or private entities operating in several sectors. Further, INP reached various international partnerships with World Bank and the Arab Planning Institute.

In the same context, the Forum’s Founder and Chairperson, Dina Abdel Fattah, availed the launch of specialized training programs for female cadres and women in business, in cooperation with the Institute of National Planning and DCarbon, sustainability consultancy.

“These specialized training programs will be developed for trainees working in several sectors, such as financial, banking, and fashion sectors. This is in addition to a prime focus on the green economy”, said Dina.

She also referred to the high women’s representation rates in the abovementioned sectors. Hence, the training programs will offer the female trainees the support and consultancy required for qualifying them.

“The forum also mulls introducing master’s programs in women’s studies, as there aren’t enough post-graduate programs available in this regard”, said Dina.

On the other hand, Dr. Ehab Shalaby, DCarbon- Egypt CEO, stated that DCarbon has prioritized sustainability localization and capacity-building for achieving sustainability.

“The Egyptian culture should be incorporated in sustainability, in order to address the challenges that the country is facing to be turned into opportunities”, he added.

Dr. Ehab also referred to the exceptional challenges that the world has been facing. He also highlighted the impact of clime change and Egypt’s preparation for the upcoming climate-related mega event, which is COP 27.

He also announced forming an action group to promote sustainability, highlighting that sustainability has just been a  mere perception in Egypt 4 years ago. Yet,  our unique vision to achieve it has been fruitful.

TOP 50 Women Forum is the first-of-its-kind platform that brings together female technocrats in Egypt. The forum was set up by 50 honorees recognized as the most influential women in the Egyptian economy during “Egypt For the Best Summit 2016”, which was held in January 2016 under the auspices of Egypt’s Prime Minister. The Forum targets to promote women’s role as key partners in socio-economic development. The Forum’s members are female ministers, and C-suite executives working for major companies operating in various economic sectors, as well as female entrepreneurs.
