Rania Al Mashat: WB is a Leading Development Partner in Egypt

Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al Mashat conferred with World Bank Human Development Director for Europe and Central Asia Region Fadia Saadah on means of bolstering partnership between Egypt and the World Group as regards human development programs and investment in human capital under the umbrella of the new Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for 2023/2027.

During the meeting, Mashat welcomed the World Bank official, appreciating the close and long-standing partnership between the two sides in implementing several projects in vital sectors as well as the technical support to Egypt, a matter which reflected on Egypt’s implementation of its national vision for 2030 to come in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDS).

She also said investment in human capital is a key field of cooperation with Egypt’s development partners, especially the World Bank Group which has already financed major projects in Egypt topped by the Universal Health Insurance, Social Protection programs of “Takaful and Karama”, in addition to food security and efforts to improve the living standards of citizens.

The meeting also touched on developments in the education sector funded by the World Bank with the aim of upgrading education targeted early childhood, the testing systems of students, as well as introducing modern technologies in the various educational stages.

The two sides also discussed efforts to empower women through technical support programs of the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

World Bank’s portfolio of development projects in Egypt amounted to around $6.9 billion, injected into 14 projects, according to an infographic released by the Ministry of International Cooperation.

The portfolio covers the fields of education, health, transport, communication, social protection, renewable energy, water desalination, housing, local development, and environment.
