Ministry of Transportation’s Equal Opportunities Unit Holds Awareness Workshops on Reproductive Health, GBV

Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transportation, directed the Equal Opportunities Unit at the Ministry of Transportation to complete its role and become more involved in achieving a service for workers by raising health awareness and implementing many awareness programs related to the axes of upgrading the Egyptian family and raising health, economic, social and cultural awareness of working women within the Ministry of Transport and affiliated agencies and from During the unit plan for the fiscal year 2023-2024, initiated by the General Authority of Alexandria Port.

His directives comes in light of the national project for the development of the Egyptian family launched by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in 2021, which aims to improve the quality of life of the citizens and the Egyptian family in general by controlling population growth and improving the Egyptian family and the health of Egyptian women in particular by providing access to (reproductive health services).

The symposium was attended by representatives of the population and family planning sector at the Directorate of Health Affairs in Alexandria. A medical convoy car equipped was offered from the beginning of the day, where a selected group of female workers in the ministry and its affiliated bodies, numbering (4) employees, were selected to deliver reproductive health awareness messages to the affiliated bodies and companies, where the lecturers discussed several topics, most prominently the early detection of tumors and why family planning, identifying the various means of family planning, as well as postpartum planning messages, and address the most pressing rumors circulating about family planning and also introducing the services provided to women in the units and centers of the Ministry of Health.

The head of the Equal Opportunity Unit promised to work diligently to prepare many upcoming workshops of interest to Egyptian women, and the unit and its main committee will do their best to reach all female workers in the ministry, noting that coordination is underway to hold awareness workshops for female workers in all affiliated bodies and agencies, respectively.

On her part, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority of Alexandria Port, Nihad Shaheen Ali Shaheen, directed to work on organizing an awareness symposium inside the meeting room at the headquarters of the General Authority of Alexandria Port, where more than 75 women and ladies working in the authority and Nahdt Misr Company for modern environmental services were received to benefit from the awareness symposium Women’s health, family planning and reproductive health.

She believes this will help educate women and raise awareness about false rumors and correct concepts to preserve the health of the mother and fetus during pregnancy, especially since these seminars allow communication with working women in various agencies affiliated with the Ministry of Transport and in line with the plan set by the Ministry’s Equal Opportunities Unit to organize many Awareness seminars on women’s health, various methods of family planning, reproductive health, violence against women, and community education in general for all female workers in the ministry’s sectors nationwide.
