Legal Awareness Is Essential to Protect Women’s Rights, Experts Say

Amira El Gamal

Improving legal awareness is increasingly recognized as a key step toward protecting women’s rights and ensuring equal access to justice. Legal experts argue that many women remain unaware of the protections available under the law, making them more vulnerable to discrimination, violence, and the loss of fundamental rights.

One of the greatest challenges is the persistence of social norms that discourage women from seeking legal assistance. In many communities, taking family disputes or cases of abuse to court is still viewed negatively, causing some women to remain silent rather than pursue legal remedies that could protect their safety and well-being.

Experts emphasize that legal institutions, family courts, government legal departments, and law enforcement agencies exist to provide guidance, protection, and fair resolution of disputes. Seeking legal advice at an early stage can often prevent conflicts from escalating while helping women safeguard their rights through lawful procedures.

Cyber harassment has also emerged as a growing concern. Online threats, blackmail, and the misuse of personal photographs have become increasingly common forms of abuse. Legal specialists encourage victims to report digital crimes to the appropriate authorities rather than responding to extortion or remaining silent, stressing that existing laws provide mechanisms to address such offenses.

Beyond legal protection, specialists call for expanding legal education across society. They recommend introducing basic legal literacy into school curricula, promoting public awareness campaigns through media and community institutions, and encouraging individuals to become familiar with their rights before problems arise.

Greater legal awareness not only empowers women to defend their rights but also contributes to stronger communities by promoting respect for the law, reducing harmful social practices, and improving access to justice for everyone.
