Environment Minister Yasmin Fouad met with a delegation from the UAE-based MLG on Monday, May 29, in the presence of the Governor of South Sinai, Khaled Fouda, to discuss e-tourism in green zones and nature reserves in South Sinai.

The minister said MLG should submit a study of the proposal to establish facilities using solar power and recycled materials for construction.

Fouad indicated that the activities include snorkeling, scuba diving, walking, scooter riding, mountain biking, and camel- and horse riding, adding that permits will be issued for the previously mentioned activities.

The minister also suggested a visit to Sharm El-Sheikh to identify investment opportunities, noting that concerning the green zone, it is necessary to define procedures that make it a sustainable environmental-friendly area.

Moreover, Fouad referred to the Eco-Egypt campaign, noting that the ministry is working with the Ministry of Tourism to eliminate any obstacles in this regard.

For his part, South Sinai Governor Khaled Fouda said Sharm el-Sheikh is a unique city that has developed into a green city with ecotourism facilities.

The minister and MLG looked into cooperation between Egyptian universities and their Emirati counterparts in scientific projects since Egyptian universities wish to participate in COP 28 in the United Arab Emirates.

In turn, the MLG team said they were keen to cooperate with institutes of higher education and scientific research in Egypt, notably in entrepreneurship and innovation, and review plans for cooperation with King Salman International University.
