Environment Min. Discusses With Swedish Counterpart COP28 Outcomes

In a meeting held on Thursday, Egypt’s Environment Minister, Yasmine Fouad, engaged in discussions with her Swedish counterpart, Romina Pourmokhtari, to explore avenues for strengthening cooperation between the two countries. The focus of the meeting was also on the outcomes of the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28).

During the meeting, the officials addressed the progress in formulating the first agreement aimed at addressing pollution caused by plastic products. They also emphasized the importance of establishing a binding legal instrument to curb plastic pollution.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the sixth round of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) held in Nairobi.

Fouad highlighted that the meeting delved into the results of COP28 and emphasized the significance of directing available funds to initiatives such as the Green Climate Fund and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

Furthermore, the discussion revolved around the crucial role of green investments and the incentives they provide to meet the private sector’s requirements. Fouad stressed the need to encourage private sector involvement in collaboration with governments to facilitate a transition towards green practices in all sectors.
