Egypt’s Environment Minister Discusses First–of–Kind Investment in Energy Recovery from Waste

The Egyptian Minister of Environment, Dr. Yasmine Fouad, held a meeting with the Executive Director of Renergy Group Partners, Robert Falk. During the meeting, the minister praised the company’s role as the first private–sector partnership to convert waste into electric energy in Egypt, pursuing to carry out similar projects. Renergy Group Partners will collaborate in executing the first station for converting waste into electric energy in Abu Rawash.

The minister highlighted that the project is the first of its kind in the investment in waste management that Egypt seeks to localize in the future. The minister affirmed that the contract signed with the company entails the implementation of a project for financing, designing, and constructing the plant for exploiting and transferring municipal solid waste into electric energy.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the possibility of replicating the project in other governorates, where investors are encouraged to participate while harnessing the level of transparency and competitiveness.

On the other hand, Falk acknowledged the Ministry’s efforts in carrying out the project, bringing the points of view closer and coordinating between the various partners, especially since it is the first project of its kind.

He also expressed his aspiration to accomplish this project soon and extend similar investments within a comprehensive vision for the project in all its details and the technology required for it.
