Egypt is witnessing a historic transformation in women’s public health, driven by high-level political will and expansive national initiatives. According to the latest report from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), released to mark the International Day of Action for Women’s Health, female life expectancy in Egypt is projected to reach 74.7 years by 2026—a significant rise from 73.4 years just four years ago.
This longevity is a direct result of a drastic decline in female mortality rates. Deaths linked to digestive system diseases have plummeted by more than half, dropping to 3.3% in 2024. Even more striking is the decline in deaths from nervous system disorders, which fell to a mere 0.2%. These figures underscore the success of Egypt’s shift toward preventive care and early intervention.
Maternal health has also reached new safety milestones. The maternal mortality rate has dropped to 41 deaths per 100,000 live births. Today, 97% of Egyptian women receive professional prenatal care from specialized doctors, and 74.6% receive immediate postpartum care. Furthermore, the Total Fertility Rate (TFR) has seen a steady decline to 2.34 children per woman in 2025, reflecting a societal shift toward family planning and improved quality of life.
The centerpiece of this progress is the suite of Presidential health initiatives. The “Women’s Health Initiative” continues to lead the fight against breast cancer, while the “Maternal and Fetal Health” program has screened nearly 3.9 million women for infectious diseases. Additionally, the initiative for “Chronic Disease and Kidney Failure Detection” has provided life-saving services to over 14.3 million female beneficiaries, ensuring that age-related illnesses are managed before they become critical.
Beyond clinical care, Egypt is prioritizing the social well-being of women through the establishment of 65 “Safe Women Clinics” across 18 governorates. These specialized units provide comprehensive support for victims of violence, paired with thousands of educational seminars focused on psychological health and rights. This holistic approach ensures that the Egyptian woman is not only living longer but is doing so in a safe, empowered, and healthy environment aligned with Egypt Vision 2030.
