Egyptian Top Court Rejects TikTok’s Mawaddah Al-Adham’s Appeal, Sustains Original Prison Sentence

by Nada Khaled

Earlier this week, the Egyptian Court of Cassation rejected TikTok influencer Mawaddah Al-Adham’s appeal against a six-year prison sentence and an EGP 100,000 fine in a human trafficking case.

On June 20, 2021, the Cairo Criminal Court condemned Al-Adham to six years in prison for people trafficking, among other offenses, but the defendant appealed the decision.

The Public Prosecution accused Adham of attacking Egyptian society’s values and principles, collaborating with others to lure and exploit girls via live broadcast, engaging in human trafficking, and receiving bank transfers from the application’s administration in exchange for views.
