Egyptian PM Announces New “Price Radar” App to be Launched Soon to Limit Price’s Monopoly in Egypt

The Egyptian government has completed the development of a new mobile phone application called “Price Radar,” which is set to launch in July. This app allows users to search for and compare prices of different items in specific locations and even upload pictures of those prices.

Users can also specify the purchase location and search for prices shared by others. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly chaired a meeting to follow up on the Supreme Committee for Regulating Markets and Commodity Prices to announce the app’s completion.

The Cabinet’s statement reads: Coordination is underway between the Information and Decision Support Center and the Consumer Protection Agency to develop another mobile application, which will facilitate receiving complaints and reports from citizens and all of the agency’s services to the public.

It is important to inform consumers of their rights and provide them with a way to file complaints if they are harmed by any products sold in the Egyptian markets. Assistant Prime Minister Osama al-Gohary has proposed several paths of action to achieve this. One such path includes providing data on food production and distribution companies registered with the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade and linking them to the electronic invoice.

This would help implement an electronic tracking system for strategic goods, enabling the determination of production, distribution, and inventory volumes. In the short term, the proposed path of action involves expanding the monitoring of wholesale markets in Gharbiyah, Sharqiya, Beni Suef, Kafr al-Sheikh, and Sohag to a total of 11 wholesale markets in the monitored governorates.

Moreover, daily monitoring operations will continue, and price reduction initiatives will be implemented. Moreover, a model using artificial intelligence (AI) techniques will be built to predict the prices of the most essential food commodities and issue warnings before any price crises.
