EgyptAir Prevents Minors from Traveling Abroad without Guardians

by Nada Khaled

EgyptAir just announced that minors below the age of 18 will not be permitted to travel abroad to any destination without their legal guardians.

The airline went on to say that if a minor is traveling alone, they need to get approval in advance from the communication department, which is in charge of passports, emigration, and nationality administration under the Ministry of Interior.

Sports teams, on the other hand, can travel without obtaining permission from the department beforehand if they have been granted permission by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Sports teams that only possess a letter from their sports federation are not included in this new rule.

According to EgyptAir, children who travel unaccompanied and without the supervision of a parent, legal guardian, or sibling who is 16 years of age or older are considered unaccompanied minors. That includes kids who are traveling with their parents, guardians, or siblings in a different class or cabin.

The state-owned flag carrier also mentioned that minors and teenagers traveling alone must have a confirmed reservation in advance and present an identity document attesting to their age.

EgyptAir emphasized that unaccompanied minors under the age of two may not be permitted to travel.

Egypt Today stated that it is permissible to transport unaccompanied minors between the ages of two and under six, as long as they are escorted by an adult and are not supposed to board the aircraft alone.

The flight attendant ticket for the service classes the minor is traveling with must be paid for by the guardian. Furthermore, the guardian and/or parent(s) must correctly complete and sign the EgyptAir unaccompanied minor form.

At the airport of departure, the child must be turned over to the designated guardian. The designated parent(s) or guardian(s) on the form are required to pick up the child at the airport upon arrival.

EgyptAir stated that the child must travel with additional flight attendants and that unaccompanied minors are not allowed to use emergency exit seats.

The flag carrier further stated that the ticket fare for unaccompanied minors is 100% of the applicable adult fare in addition to the full fare for the flight attendants’ trip.
