Dr. Maya Morsy, Minister of Social Solidarity, has issued a decision appointing Ms. Ohood Wafi as the Executive Director of the Elderly Care Fund. The Fund aims to protect the rights of the elderly, promote equality, and provide comprehensive support across social, economic, health, psychological, and educational dimensions.
Chaired by the Minister of Social Solidarity, the board includes a representative of the Ministry serving as Vice Chair, and representatives from the ministries of Finance; Planning and Economic Development; Health and Population; Labor; and Higher Education and Scientific Research. It also includes representatives from the Administrative Control Authority (ACA), Nasser Social Bank, the National Center for Social and Criminological Research, the National Organization for Social Insurance (NOSI), Tahya Misr Fund, and the General Federation of Egyptian NGOs, along with four experts appointed by the Prime Minister.
With over 15 years in development and social justice, Wafi’s career spans from ethnographic research in Halayeb and Shalateen to roles at Nahdet El Mahrousa, Misr El Kheir, and Handicap International. She holds a Master’s from Saint Joseph University of Beirut and a Bachelor’s from Cairo University. She is also a 2019 graduate of the National Training Academy (NTA) – Presidential Leadership Program.
Previously, Wafi also contributed to several national reports, including serving as a member of the team that prepared Egypt’s Voluntary National Review (VNR) presented to the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. Moreover, she also co-authored the localization chapter in the “Financing Sustainable Development in Egypt” report, produced in cooperation with the Ministry of Planning, the League of Arab States, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Meanwhile, she contributed to a number of policy papers addressing key development issues, with a particular focus on social development and the NGO sector in Egypt.
Wafi co-drafted the initial proposal for the “Haya Karima” (Decent Life Initiative) initiative in 2018 and later chaired its Foundation’s Board of Trustees. She also played a foundational role in the National Alliance for Civil Development Work in 2022, becoming its first Vice President in 2024.
Currently, she is a member of the National Council for Women, leading its Youth Committee. Looking ahead, she is expected to further advance inclusive social protection and sustainable development frameworks in Egypt.
