Egypt Champions Sustainable Development and Women’s Empowerment: Labor Min.

by Mona Yousef

Egypt is placing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the forefront of its national agenda, according to Labor Minister Hassan Shehata. This commitment aligns with directives from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and reflects a focus on building a more sustainable future.

Minister Shehata emphasized the government’s efforts to localize these global goals and integrate them into national plans. This strategy involves collaboration with development partners, including UN bodies and international organizations. The first meeting of the joint steering committee, held at the New Administrative Capital (NAC), signifies this collaborative approach to achieving the SDGs.

The Minister’s speech also highlighted the government’s dedication to women’s empowerment. He pointed to the unprecedented focus on women’s issues by the political leadership. Concrete steps towards this goal include the establishment of a dedicated unit for promoting gender equality and women’s economic empowerment. Additionally, Egypt is working with the International Labor Organization (ILO) to organize workshops that ensure a safe and supportive working environment for female employees.

By prioritizing SDGs and women’s empowerment, Egypt demonstrates its commitment to a future that is prosperous, equitable, and sustainable.
