Egyptian squash player, Amina Orfi, has set her sights on securing a place in the final of The World Games Athlete of the Year poll, as the official voting begins. Only 16 years old, Orfi has established herself as one of the sport’s most promising young talents, enjoying a stellar year in 2023 that propelled her to the 16th spot in the world rankings.
Voting on the official website will start from January 22nd at 12:00 GMT, only the 10 top candidates in the rankings will continue in the race, with their vote counts reset to zero. The voting period concludes on January 31st at 12:00 GMT.
Orfi’s remarkable achievements throughout the year include clinching the 2023 WSF World Junior Championship title and leading Egypt to victory in the WSF World Junior Team Championship. She also made impressive runs in prestigious tournaments such as the World Championship, the US Open, the Qatar Classic, and the Hong Kong Squash Open, reaching advanced stages in each.
The World Games, a globally celebrated multi-sport event held every four years under the auspices of the International World Games Association with support from the International Olympic Committee, has opened its polls for the Athlete of the Year. The prestigious title of TWG Greatest Athlete of All Time was awarded to Malaysian squash legend Nicol David in 2020.
Sports enthusiasts can vote rights once every 24 hours, selecting two candidates with their votes. Two votes will be allocated to the first-choice candidate, while one vote will be assigned to the second-choice candidate. It is important to note that a vote cast for only one candidate will not be counted.
