Cairo University Organizes Awareness Lecture on Breast Cancer Prevention

In celebration of Pink October, a global initiative for awareness, the Women and Media Research Center at Cairo University organized an awareness lecture on ways to prevent breast cancer and the role of the media in awareness within the framework of supporting the state’s efforts to combat the causes of infection and eliminate its risks.

The step came under the patronage of Dr. Mohamed El Khosht, President of Cairo University, Dr. Hanan Junaid, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication, and Dr. Mohamed Samy, Vice President of the University, under the supervision of Dr. Nermin Ali Ajwa, Director of the Women’s Research and Studies Center at the Faculty.

During the lecture, Dr. Ajwa shed light on the incredibly successful presidential initiative 100 Million Health, one of the pillars of which is the Egyptian Women’s Health Initiative, which targets early detection of breast cancer to avoid the spread of the disease.

She went on to explain that statistics showed that the rate of detection of the disease in its late stages actually decreased from 59% to 29%, and based on the role of the Center for Research and Studies of Women and Media in serving women and family issues, the center launched a campaign to raise awareness of the importance of early detection on the center’s social media pages.

The center also organized a competition among students of the faculty for the best content produced under the supervision of the center’s director.

Moreover, Cairo University also launched an initiative to raise awareness of breast cancer in cooperation with the Egyptian Society for Supporting Cancer Patients and under the supervision of specialized professors, which started Sunday, October 29, and will continue till November 2.
