ALO Launches Training Guide to Enhance Women’s Role in Labor Unions

The Arab Women’s Labor (AWO) Affairs Committee of the Arab Labor Organization (ALO) launched a training guide to enhance the role of women in labor unions. After studying the reality of women in labor unions, it became clear that the presence of women in leadership positions still does not reflect their presence and contributions at the grassroots level, nor their participation in professional sectors such as health and education, which necessitates working on reshaping the societal thinking concerning women’s participation in labor unions.

The Committee, chaired by Dr. Solaf Darwish, Secretary General of the Committee, invited the Secretary General of the Arab Union for Banking, Insurance and Financial Business Workers, and the Undersecretary of the Manpower Committee in the Egyptian Parliament, in the presence of women’s representatives from the three work parties in the Arab countries, during its meeting for the 21st session of union representatives in Arab countries to adopt this training guide and invest it in building the capacities of labor unionists in Arab countries.

During her speech, Darwish indicated that the Salalah Declaration approved by the Arab Women’s Employment Affairs Committee is a roadmap for policies directed to the Arab region to be implemented during the 2021/2023 session, to enable women’s participation in all dimensions of the comprehensive development, which was approved by the Second Working Women’s Forum; and the Arab Labor Organization mobilized all institutions supporting entrepreneurship.

It is worth noting that the participants praised President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s keen interest in enabling women to participate in parliaments, the government, and diplomatic work and stressed the strengthening of the role of women within Arab labor union organizations to participate in sustainable development and the implementation of the committee’s work plan and its goals to achieve the Arab strategy 2030. The meeting reviewed a report on the results of the twentieth business community conference on supporting women entrepreneurs in the Arab world.
