A high school student—specifically in the science track—residing in Edmo village, located within the Minya Governorate in Upper Egypt, Nancy has chosen an unconventional path for young women in her region. Within the workshop, she holds tools with remarkable precision, taking on complex tasks involving heavy power tools such as demolition hammers (hiltis), angle grinders, and various types of electric drills.
Mastering the Craft from the Ground Up
Nancy’s journey into a historically male-dominated trade required grit and persistence. Entering the world of heavy electrical machinery repair and lathe machining presented significant physical demands and social scrutiny, yet her commitment to mastering the technical intricacies of the trade never wavered.
“The beginnings were not easy due to the strenuous nature of the work,” Nancy shares. “However, I was determined to persevere until I gained substantial experience. Today, I am fully capable of diagnosing and repairing a wide range of electrical equipment, including hiltis, angle grinders, and various power drills.”
