In a landmark move supporting women’s leadership in Egypt’s judicial and civic sectors, Judge Abeer Tantawy, a member of the Administrative Prosecution Authority, has become the first female judge to supervise the general assembly of a youth and sports club in Alexandria. Her oversight of the Egyptian Yacht Club’s general assembly marks a historic precedent and reflects a broader national strategy to empower women in high-impact roles.
A Step Toward Gender Equality in Judicial Supervision
This milestone comes in line with directives from Counselor Mohamed El-Shennawy, President of the Administrative Prosecution Authority, and in accordance with a resolution passed by the Supreme Council of the Administrative Prosecution in its July 12, 2025 session. The resolution affirms the body’s commitment to promoting female judicial talent and advancing women’s participation in leadership roles.
Administrative Prosecution: A Role Model for Women’s Representation
With women comprising over 42% of the members of the Administrative Prosecution Authority, the body remains the most female-represented judicial institution in Egypt. Judge Tantawy’s appointment sends a strong message that merit, competence, and equal opportunity are the guiding principles behind judicial leadership appointments in Egypt today.
This appointment sets a precedent for more women to take on supervisory and decision-making roles in various institutions across the country.
