In a symbolic cultural gesture that highlights the depth of bilateral ties, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and First Lady Entissar El-Sisi accompanied King Felipe VI of Spain and Queen Letizia on an exclusive evening tour of Egypt’s iconic Giza Pyramids, where the royal couple attended a special Sound and Light Show.

The event, set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx, came as part of King Felipe VI’s historic first state visit to Egypt, a milestone in the two countries’ evolving diplomatic and cultural relationship.

A Cultural Highlight of a Diplomatic Milestone

The royal tour of the pyramids—one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World—served not only as a cultural immersion for the Spanish monarchs but also as a tribute to the enduring civilizational legacy Egypt offers the world.

The Sound and Light Show narrated the story of ancient Egypt, bringing to life more than 4,000 years of history through music, lighting, and visuals projected directly onto the monuments.

The presence of both heads of state and their spouses underscored the warmth and ceremonial significance of the visit, which has already included high-level talks, bilateral agreements, and expanded cooperation in areas such as sustainable development, green transition, tourism, and education.

Strengthening Cultural Diplomacy

The visit to the pyramids was widely seen as a key moment in reinforcing cultural diplomacy between Cairo and Madrid, promoting mutual understanding beyond politics and economics. It also reflects a shared desire to enhance people-to-people exchange and heritage preservation, particularly as Spain continues to support cultural and archaeological missions in Egypt.

The royal visit is expected to boost tourism interest from Spain and Europe at large, particularly in heritage destinations like Luxor, Aswan, and the Red Sea — key pillars in Egypt’s sustainable tourism strategy.
