Egyptian rower Mariam Awadallah delivered a standout performance at the 2025 African Schools Games, capturing two gold medals in the coastal rowing competition held in Annaba, Algeria.

Awadallah clinched first place in the U19 girls’ singles event, showcasing remarkable skill and endurance on the Mediterranean coast. She further demonstrated her versatility by partnering in the U19 mixed doubles, where the duo also secured the gold medal, making her one of the top performers of the tournament.

The coastal rowing events were held between July 23 and August 6, 2025, as part of a wider multi-sport event aimed at fostering youth athletic talent across the continent. Teams from Algeria, Egypt, Togo, Tunisia, and Zimbabwe participated in the rowing competition, which was staged along the scenic but demanding shoreline of Annaba.

Awadallah’s double gold marks a significant achievement for Egypt, underlining the country’s growing presence in youth water sports and setting a high bar for future regional competitions.

The African Schools Games, launched to promote youth sports and continental unity, continues to serve as a launchpad for Africa’s next generation of athletes — and Awadallah’s victory is a clear testament to that mission.
