On the first day of his visit to the Qatari capital Doha, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism, Sherif Fathi, met with Mr. Saad bin Ali Al-Khulaifi, Head of Qatar Tourism, to discuss strengthening bilateral tourism cooperation and increasing tourism movement between Egypt and Qatar.
This meeting is part of Mr. Fathi’s ongoing visit to Qatar, where he is participating in the 51st meeting of the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s Regional Commission for the Middle East, scheduled to take place in Doha tomorrow. Additionally, he will participate in a related conference focused on “Sports Tourism and the Tourism Industry Post-FIFA World Cup” on February 14.
The meeting brought together Amb. Amr El-Shobiny, Egypt’s Ambassador to Qatar, Mr. Khaled Tharwat, the Minister’s Advisor for International Relations and the General Supervisor of the Ministry’s Department of International Relations and Agreements, and Ahmed Nabil, the Minister’s Assistant for Aviation and Follow-up.
During the meeting, they discussed proposals to create integrated tourism programs between Egypt and Qatar that target attracting tourists from East Asian countries, especially Japan and China. These programs would combine multiple tourist products, allowing tourists to visit both Cairo and Doha under one comprehensive travel package.
It was also agreed to organize a visit by a Qatari delegation to Egypt, led by Mr. Saad bin Ali Al-Khulaifi, during which a professional tourism roadshow would be organized to discuss the practical implementation of these tourism programs, in coordination with representatives from both Egyptian and Qatari tourism sectors, as well as aviation officials.
The discussion also covered joint training initiatives, particularly leveraging Egyptian expertise in hospitality and hotel management. Furthermore, the conversation touched on the Grand Egyptian Museum, especially with the ongoing trial runs of its main exhibition halls. Fathi extended an invitation to Al-Khulaifi to visit the museum during his upcoming trip to Egypt, a gesture that was warmly welcomed by Qatar’s Tourism Minister
