News Agencies

Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad emphasized that the tourism sector in Egypt is a crucial contributor to the national economy, accounting for 12% to 15%. She noted that losing biological diversity and natural resources heavily impacts this sector.

Fouad pointed out that 90% of Sharm El Sheikh’s tourism relies on its coastlines, highlighting the need to preserve natural resources to ensure sustainable tourism in these areas.

These remarks were made during Fouad’s participation in a series of roundtable meetings in Montreal, Canada, as part of the “Endgame Facilitation” workshop to prepare for COP16.

Fouad stressed the importance of adhering to the UN agreement to restore the environmental system, which aims to halt environmental degradation and work towards global goals. She stated that this complex issue requires extensive dialogue with various stakeholders.

Furthermore, Fouad emphasized the role of the private sector in protecting natural resources and the significant role of civil society and women’s organizations in safeguarding these resources, as highlighted in COP14.
