Minya Agriculture Directorate Honors 33 Female Entrepreneurs in Innovative Agricultural Projects

The Directorate of Agriculture in Minya organized a ceremony honoring 33 women entrepreneurs in innovative agricultural projects under the patronage of Major General Osama Al-Qadi, Governor of Minya, and within the agricultural innovation project funded by the German agency GIZ in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, within the framework of cooperation between the Directorate of Agriculture in Minya and the Life Vision for Development Foundation.

Dr. Omar Safwat, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, asserted that women project entrepreneurs submitted 27 innovative ideas, of which 20 ideas received financial grants provided by the project management.

He added that the project works through several components, most prominently the institutional building within the scope of 10 NGOs, in addition to providing technical support through 32 field schools benefiting 800 farmers and women in the fields of onion and garlic crops and medicinal and aromatic plants, in addition to training 150 women in the field of entrepreneurship, and distributing 8 grants to partner associations benefiting post-harvest transactions of medicinal and aromatic plants.

The creative ideas included a project to manufacture bread and pasta from quinoa flour, producing jam, juices, and oils from the prickly pear crop, drying eggs, separating it and using the powder in sweets and baked goods, and manufacturing compost from agricultural waste to raise soil fertility.
