AWO Announces Winners’ List of Shireen Abu Akleh Emerging Reporter Award

During the activities of the 11th meeting of its Supreme Council, the Arab Women Organization (AWO) announced the names of the winners of the “Shireen Abu Akleh Emerging Reporter Award for Social Justice” allocated in honor of Palestinian journalist martyr Shireen Abu Akleh, a symbol of courage and honesty in the service of truth.

The list of winners included the Egyptian journalist Al-Shaima Farouk, from Al-Shorouk newspaper, and Omani journalist Jihan bint Abdullah Al-Lamkiya, a television broadcaster at the Ministry of Information.

Shields of honor were presented by Dr. Maya Morsi, President of the National Council for Women and President of the Organization’s Supreme Council in its current session (2023-2025); Faryal Salem, Advisor to the Palestinian Presidency and President of the Organization’s Executive Council; and Claudine Aoun, President of the National Commission for Lebanese Women (NCLW), and member of the organization’s Supreme Council.

Moreover, the organization paid tribute to female Palestinian and Lebanese journalists and media professionals, martyrs of professional and national duty since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

Female martyr journalists included Salam Khalil Mima, Alaa Taher Al-Hasanat, Salma Mukhaimer, Doaa Sharaf, Ayat Khadura, Iman Al-Aqili, Nermin Haboush, and Haneen Ali Al-Qashtan. Ola Atallah, Hanan Ayyad, Nermin Qawwas, Amal Hassan Ahmed Zuhd, Shaima Ziad Khamis Al-Jazzar, and Doaa Al-Jabour from Palestine, in addition to Farah Omar from Lebanon.
