According to Wang Jie, the Deputy Director-General of the Culture and Tourism Department in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, talks are underway between the Xinjiang Tourism Administration and Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to organize the “Xinjiang is a Wonderful Place” dance show and “Xinjiang Cultural Week” in Egypt in 2024.

Jie highlighted that Xinjiang recently hosted the sixth World Dance Festival, which saw the participation of artists from around the world and showcased international performances. The festival also featured a two-day ballet performance in Urumqi.

She emphasized the direct cooperation and communication that has taken place between Xinjiang and Egypt’s cultural agencies in recent years, which has led to the organization of joint exhibitions, film screenings, and artistic performances. In 2017, a traditional music show was presented jointly with Egypt at the Cairo Opera House, featuring music and costumes from all nationalities and minorities in the Xinjiang region.

Jie further added that three films about the region’s nature and social development were presented to Egyptian audiences. She also mentioned that tourism in Xinjiang has recovered in 2023, with 100 million Chinese tourists visiting, and is expected to increase in the coming years.

Expressing her desire to strengthen cooperation between Egypt and China in the culture, tourism, and antiquities sector, Jie noted that the Belt and Road Initiative is an opportunity to explore the participating countries’ cultures, traditions, and customs while promoting economic cooperation.
