WHO Completely Loses Contact with Al-Shifaa Hospital in Gaza

by Nada Khaled

Yesterday, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced on social media that it lost all contact with Al-Shifaa Hospital, the biggest medical center in Gaza.

WHO’s statement further revealed that it received a report that the hospital was surrounded by tanks and that a lot of those who fled the hospital had been shot at, wounded, or killed.

The statement added: Al-Shifa Hospital, the biggest medical facility in Gaza, has been targeted several times in the last 48 hours, resulting in multiple fatalities and numerous injuries. The hospital’s intensive care unit and the quarters where displaced persons were being housed were both destroyed by the bombardment. There was a report of an intubated patient passing away due to an outage of electricity.

After the statement, WHO urged an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, stating that it is the only way to prevent the horrifying levels of suffering and save lives. Under international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, hospitals, patients, medical personnel, and those seeking refuge in medical institutions are all protected.
