Achim Steiner, the administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), met with Rania A. Al-Mashat, Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, to discuss ways to strengthen the partnership between the two organizations and expedite Egypt’s efforts toward sustainable development.
The 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly convened the meeting, which covered a number of important topics, such as identifying development gaps, expanding finance options, and integrating sustainable development goals at the governorate level.
According to Egypt Today the Ministry’s new operating framework, which aims to achieve sustainable economic growth by investing in industrial development, human capital, and green initiatives, was presented by Minister Al-Mashat.
In order to address development difficulties, she underlined the significance of evidence-based decision-making and data-driven policy.
The UNDP praised the Ministry’s new strategy and reaffirmed its commitment to aiding Egypt’s development efforts. Potential areas of cooperation, including private sector development, digital transformation, and climate action, were explored by the two parties.
In addition, Minister Al-Mashat emphasized the necessity of creative financing solutions, such as debt-for-climate swaps, to assist sustainable development projects. She cited the signing of a memorandum of understanding with China, as well as the accomplishments of initiatives with Germany and Italy.
At the end of the discussion, both sides pledged to fortify their collaboration and cooperate in order to realize Egypt’s development objectives.
The partnership will concentrate on a number of areas, including as innovation, digital transformation, health, food security, social protection, medium-sized and small businesses, and climate change.
