UN Sponsors Egypt’s Women-Friendly Cities Project In Damietta

by Mona Yousef

Under the sponsorship of the UN, the Women-Friendly Cities project in Egypt has significantly impacted the economic empowerment of women in the country. The project has enabled women, including housewives, to become entrepreneurs and generate income to support their families alongside their husbands by providing various services and opportunities.

Launched 2 years ago in Damietta, the Women-Friendly Cities project recognizes the importance of marketing and provides avenues for women to showcase and sell their products. The project has helped women, especially those with disabilities, reach broader markets and expand their customer base by facilitating participation in international exhibitions and creating marketing opportunities. This has been crucial in increasing their sales and generating sustainable income.

Through training, skill development, access to markets, and financial contribution, it has empowered women to become entrepreneurs, thereby fostering their economic independence and improving their overall well-being.
