An ambitious initiative is unfolding to reshape women’s empowerment in Egypt. The United Nations Women, the Egyptian Government, and the European Union have launched “Tamkeen,” a three-year joint program  aligned with the National Strategy for the Empowerment of Egyptian Women 2030. It serves as a beacon of hope for Egyptian women, addressing socio-economic growth, leadership, and gender-based violence prevention.

Tamkeen is transforming Egypt’s landscape for women’s empowerment. The program focuses on socio-economic growth, leadership, and preventing gender-based violence, aligning with the National Strategy for the Empowerment of Egyptian Women 2030.

Tamkeen, a collaborative initiative by the United Nations Women, the Egyptian Government, and the European Union, is reshaping women’s empowerment in Egypt. The program targets socio-economic growth, leadership, and gender-based violence prevention, aligning with the National Strategy for the Empowerment of Egyptian Women 2030.

Egyptian women have long fought societal norms and economic barriers for equality and independence. “Tamkeen” aims to break these chains, offering a multifaceted approach to empowerment. Aligned with the National Human Rights Strategy and the National Climate Change Strategy, the program underscores the interconnectedness of women’s empowerment with broader societal goals. A national program coordinator will ensure cohesive implementation across the country.

“Tamkeen” tackles critical areas such as leadership development, socio-economic empowerment, and gender-based violence prevention. It resonates with Egypt’s Ministry of Social Solidarity’s ongoing efforts through the Social Leaders Program. With 15,000 predominantly female leaders, the program has made strides in eradicating harmful practices, enhancing socio-economic status, and fostering inclusivity. An observatory monitors women’s development, while an awareness program addresses issues like Female Genital Mutilation, child marriage, and economic empowerment.

The collaboration between “Tamkeen” and the Social Leaders Program promises transformative impact. They uplift women and integrate them into national development.  Initiatives like “Tamkeen” and the Social Leaders Program are critical pillars in Egypt’s pursuit of gender equality. Through coordinated efforts and commitment to empowerment, the vision of the National Strategy for the Empowerment of Egyptian Women 2030 is becoming a reality.

The journey of Egyptian women towards empowerment and equality is a story of resilience, ambition, and hope. With programs like “Tamkeen,” the narrative shifts from struggle to empowerment, marking a new chapter in Egypt’s quest for gender equality.
