Starting in January, paying for train tickets in USD, or Euro to be mandatory for foreigners in Egypt

According to Egypt today, Minister of Transport Kamel al-Wazir stated in a phone-in Saturday that starting in January, it would be mandatory for foreigners to pay for train tickets in either US dollars or euros.

The minister stated that in the last few days, 1,023 passengers had paid for their tickets in such foreign currencies, with the majority of those tickets being for sleeping trains.

Wazir stated that the decision would assist the ministry in paying the instalments of contracts signed with international companies to supply new railcars and train engines, renovate signalling systems, and perform maintenance.
