Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, and UN Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza, Sigrid Kaag, emphasized on Monday the urgent need to increase humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. They also called for providing necessary protection for international relief workers in the area.

A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, Ahmed Abu Zeid, said the meeting took up the UN Coordinator’s efforts to implement the tasks assigned to her under UN Security Council Resolution No. 2720 to monitor and accelerate the process of bringing humanitarian aid into the Palestinian enclave.

The foreign minister stressed the need for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza to allow safe entry of humanitarian assistance.

The UN coordinator stressed the importance of continuing to coordinate and consult with Egypt to fulfill her responsibilities. She praised Egypt’s role in alleviating the Gaza crisis and mitigating its humanitarian impact.

Kaag praised the collaboration between the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC), Egyptian civil society organizations, and UN relief agencies to provide assistance to Gaza.
