Emirates Sheikha Fatima, affectionately known as the Mother of the Nation, recently made a significant announcement that is sure to empower Emirati women.
It was made just one day before Emirati Women’s Day, annually on August 28th, to celebrate women’s hard work and achievements. This new strategy is expected to help improve women’s lives and will run until 2031.
In April, Sheikha Fatima revealed the theme for this year’s event, “We Collaborate for Tomorrow.” This theme is perfectly aligned with the announcement made by President Sheikh Mohamed that 2023 will be known as the “Year of Sustainability.” This demonstrates the UAE’s unwavering commitment to finding new and innovative solutions to pressing sustainability challenges.
During her announcement, Sheikha Fatima emphasized the significant progress that the UAE has made in various fields, particularly regarding women’s affairs and social participation. She also highlighted Emirati women’s unique and prestigious position in all sectors of society, which has helped make the UAE a global leader in human development and competitiveness indicators.
The National Strategy for Empowerment of Emirati Women comprises three primary categories: establishing supportive families, integrating women into the workforce and future industries, and developing women’s skills and capacities. The strategy also seeks to create a legislative and regulatory environment that supports women’s quality of life.
The General Women’s Union and other relevant government institutions are responsible for implementing this groundbreaking strategy. They will develop and approve operational plans annually, supported by the Cabinet and Executive Councils. The General Women’s Union will also hold regular meetings to evaluate progress and suggest any necessary amendments. This new strategy will help women in the UAE reach new heights and achieve their full potential.
