The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), the training arm of Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, recently released its 2023 activity report. The report showcases significant achievements in advancing sustainable development and good governance practices across various sectors in Egypt.
NIGSD’s work has been recognized internationally. The institute received the EFMD Excellence in Practice Award and garnered praise from the United Nations for its “Be an Ambassador” initiative. NIGSD’s participation in COP27 also earned them a Guinness World Records participation medal.
NIGSD actively empowers young Egyptians. Initiatives like the Egypt Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the “Wa’tna” platform, launched in collaboration with UNICEF, equip young people with necessary skills and knowledge related to entrepreneurship, sustainability, and climate change.
The institute partners with various ministries to expand educational programs. The “Green Minds” initiative promotes environmental awareness among students, while the “Together for a Digital Future” program, in collaboration with Cisco, enhances digital literacy.
NIGSD prioritizes gender equality. The “Empowering Egyptian Women Leaders” program provides training opportunities for hundreds of women across Egypt. The institute also launched initiatives at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina to promote women’s engagement in sustainable development. NIGSD conducts research and publishes reports to evaluate government projects and analyze Egypt’s performance in global governance and innovation indices. NIGSD collaborates with international institutions like the United Nations University and the Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government to deliver programs on e-governance, digital transformation, and good governance practices.
Overall Impact:
Over the past four years, NIGSD has trained over 52,000 individuals. This impressive number reflects the institute’s dedication to promoting sustainable development and good governance in Egypt and beyond.
