Earlier this week, several banks in Egypt, including the National Bank of Egypt, Banque Misr, and CIB, announced their decision to increase credit card foreign currency transaction limits by 50% and reduce markup fees from 10% to 5%.
CIB reported consolidated net profits of EGP 11.92 billion in the first quarter (Q1) of 2024, up from EGP 6.06 billion in Q1-23.

According to the Chairman of the National Bank of Egypt, the new credit card limits for international travel are as follows: For standard credit cards, the limit is set at 37,000 EGP, while gold credit cards have a limit of 120,000 EGP. For platinum credit cards, the limit is 240,000 EGP.
