Ministry of Social Solidarity Reports that 3.5 Million Egyptians Receive Medical Services from Civil Society Organizations

Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine El-Kabbaj announced on Sunday that 3.5 million citizens receive medical services from healthcare facilities operated by civil society organizations.

NGOs in Egypt operate 242 hospitals, 154 clinics, and medical centers with a total capacity of 2,800 beds, 270 operation theaters, 530 dialysis units, 1,500 incubators, and 160 emergency rooms. Their medical staff comprises 5,000 doctors and 9,000 nurses.

In March 2023, Minister Kabbaj announced that the total amount of grants and donations to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Egypt reached EGP 9.5 billion in 2022.

In relation to contributions, a total of EGP 6.75 billion was amassed by 277 non-governmental organizations, all of which obtained permits from the ministry to conduct fundraising activities.

The grants were distributed by multiple funding institutions to 308 non-governmental organizations, totaling 1,197 approved by the ministry. This marked a growth of EGP 24 million compared to the previous year, reaching a total of EGP 2.49.
